Voting ashtrays are an effective way of combating cigarette-butt litter.
The ashtray is divided into two compartments and a voting system invites users to choose their favourite between two subjects. A study carried out in Nyon showed that the voting ashtray reduced the number of cigarette butts on the ground by 25% compared with a conventional wall-mounted ashtray.
